Universal Cyber Child Safety Act passes in Assembly vote

On the 19th of October 2025, the Vladastock Assembly passed the Universal Cyber Child Safety Act. This ground-breaking piece of legislation bans children under the age of sixteen from having accounts on social media services. The act also puts in strict measures to regulate social media companies, ensuring that people are protected from anti-social and dangerous actors.

The process for writing this law began in July when citizens were given a choice on which issue to explore next, after some organisation it was decided that the 25th of July would be the day we would host a Community Event on the topic. That night was both deeply informative and fun, with citizens giving their opinions on the best way to protect children in online spaces.

After that night the drafting process began. First beginning in Melbourne before continuing in Sydney, as the Premier had matters to attend to. The law went through a number of revisions; the First Lady was instrumental in moderating the law to appeal to Aovikland’s leadership. Once a suitable draft was ready, we collectively decided that the 19th of October would be the perfect time for a Law Review.

Citizens around the world called in for the Law Review, which was hosted on Discord. Thankfully because all Assembly Members were present for the Law Review, once we finalised editing the law we immediately proceeded to an Assembly session to vote on the legislation.

It passed unanimously. The Premier had this to say on the occasion: “Assembly Members, fellow citizens, today we once more lead by example. As polities around the world struggle to face the emerging threat of social media corporations and their services, we strive to ensure that children are safe from harm. Social media is an important part of modern life; indeed, our Confederation uses their services extensively for operations. However, children are simply not emotionally or mentally prepared to use such services. We hope that this act can serve as an example for peoples and governments around the world. Passing this bill was a team effort. I wish to thank the wonderful First Lady Joyce, Assembly Members Sean and Jack, Deputy Premier Xavier and Supreme Court Justice George for all their help in crafting this law. Your insights and contributions were invaluable. Now some citizens have highlighted concerns throughout the creation of this act that it was too severe, even going so far as to sarcastically say we should ban all media. However, they fail to realize two things; firstly, that we have put extensive safeguards to protect the legitimate personal liberties of all peoples, and secondly that the DSCP and my administration will never back down in the face of crime. We will not surrender ourselves over to powerful corporations simply because they have more money and resources than we do. Comrades hold your heads up high; we once again show the world what a determined band can do!”

the current administration now looks to the next issue to tackle. Polls with critical global issues will be presented to our citizens soon.
