Fourteenth Community Event report
On Friday the 25th of July, at 6pm Australian Eastern Standard Time we hosted our fourteenth Community Event; on the topic of a social media ban for children. The topic was chosen via a vote from our citizens, who were inspired by the recent legislation passed by the Australian Federal Government.
The First Lady, Premier William, Deputy Premier Xavier, Supreme Court Judge George, Assembly Members Sean and Jack attended. Xaiver and Sean joined in from a Café in Hong Kong, whilst the others all joined in from Australia.
There was a flurry of debate over the topic; especially on if Kids should be banned and if so at what age. There was also in depth discussion about the technical side of enforcing such a ban. However, there seemed to be consensus on not rewarding social media companies for developing child friendly platforms with tax incentives.
It was a fun night catching up with old friends and tackling big issues; this Administration will use the opinions gathered to craft legislation and present it to the citizenry for a Law Review, when the time is right. Big thanks to all those who attended for their time and great responses.
