Statement on starvation in the Gaza Strip

Transcript of Speech

Citizens of the Confederation, Peoples of the world.

Two years ago, fighting started in the Gaza Strip following the unprovoked terror attacks of October 7th. We, alongside most other polities around the world called for restraint in Israel’s response.

Since that time, we have chosen to not comment on the war. Even as the fighting spread to other countries in the region and killed untold scores. However, we cannot maintain our silence any longer.

Simply put, recent credible reports have been coming out of Gaza of starvation amongst the civilian population. This is not an accident, as Israel has been deliberately halting aid convoys from entering the strip.

This is frankly unacceptable. There is no legal justification for barring emergency food and medical supplies. You cannot starve someone in self defence, and the argument from the Israeli government saying that aid supplies will assist Hamas is entirely without merit.

The world cannot look away as children starve, kids and babies hold no politics. They aren’t soldiers and they most certainly deserve life and liberty, no different to the children of Israel.

My administration calls upon the Israeli government to allow aid convoys to enter the Gaza Strip. We demand that United Nations aid agencies are permitted back into Gaza.

Let me be clear; these demands do not alter Vladastock’s position that a two-state solution remains the best path for peace. We still firmly believe that Hamas is a totalitarian terrorist organisation that has no future governing anyone. Isreal remains justified in seeking to liberate the hostages cruelly kidnapped.

We join the world in hoping and striving for a just peace.

This has been Premier William Alexander, signing off.
